The DePaul Environmental Science
graduate:
Has a good science literacy:
- Is literate in math skills through calculus.
- Has a good understanding of chemistry through organic.
- Has a good understanding of basic biology, including evolution
and ecology.
- Has a good understanding of hydrological, geological and atmospheric
processes.
Has the skills and knowledge necessary
to do environmental science:
- Is experienced in basic laboratory and safety procedures.
- Is experienced in field sampling, and the identification and
handling of samples
- Has a basic understanding of experimental design and statistical
analysis.
- Is proficient in the use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases
and the internet.
- Has some experience in scientific methodology and/or research.
- Is able to prepare and present a good seminar.
- Has an understanding of the scientific principles surrounding
environmental issues.
- Is aware of the policy, economic and social implications of
many environmental issues.
- Understands NEPA and related legislation, and is able to draft,
evaluate and interpret Environmental Impact Statements.
Has a good general education:
- Is able to research an issue in the library and on the internet.
- Has experience with and some understanding of other cultures.
- Has some understanding of, and is familiar with the basic principals
of the arts, theater, literature, history, humanities and social
sciences.
