GIS I - Final Projects - 2011
Final projects will be derived from the TRI data that we have been working with all term. These will be individual final projects with each analyst creating an independent report and map.
You should start by using the table you have been working with for most of
the term as your data source. This should be a csv table. Use it wisely. The csv table contains records describing
as many as 264 firms in Cook County, Illinois
that reported releases of any of several hundreds of toxic chemicals tracked by
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during calendar year 2007.
This table should be a "clean" version of the file that was created by each of you in the
"part 1" section of the project. Attributes in the table for each firm
should include:
| Row_num | Facility | Address | City | County | State | FIPS_Code | Zip | Latitude | Longitude | Total_Onsite | Total_Offsite | Total_On_and_Offsite |
The field names are all descriptive of the contents, but remember there is much more information at the TRI Explorer site. Use all resources at hand (including data from the 4 lab activities) to create a stunning (D-size max) visualization of these data. You may also find this zip file handy - it has streets, interstate highways, and a detailed boundary for Cook County. Write a short (approximately 3 page) technical report that describes the process that you went through to create your visualization. Some hints:
This project (map and report) is due at the time of the scheduled final exam, Wednesday, November 16, 2.45pm, although they may be turned in earlier. They should be turned in at the Geography Department office, suite 4300 Dietzgen Building (990 Fullerton). If I am not there please place the project in my mailbox - or in the box provided for your use.
