Dr. Curran completed a Master’s Degree in Geography from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1998. She received her doctorate in Geography in 2004 from Clark University. Her dissertation explored the links between gentrification and industrial displacement in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Winifred teaches classes in urban, social, and cultural geography. Her research interests include gentrification, issues of race and gender in the city, the changing economies of cities, and qualitative methodologies. She has published in Environment and Planning A and has a paper that is forthcoming in Urban Geography.
