Individual homework for the makeup of 2/22 lecture

1) Go to

http://www.esri.com/industries.html and then choose any case study from drop-down list

or http://www.gisdevelopment.net/application/index.htm and click the link

or GIS-related website of your interest (google search of keywords you’re interested in?)

2) Choose one case study that interests you

The length of articles vary from one to 5 pages in the suggested website aboves, mostly one or two pages

3) Write a short essay (one-page) on

3)-1. Statement of problems: what are problems? or what geographic questions are asked in the case study?

3)-2. How was GIS used in addressing problems or questions stated above? Which aspect of GIS do you think has enabled such problems to be addressed better than other means (such as paper maps, non-geographic information system, and so on)?

3)-3. Think about a relative role of different components of GIS {data, people, software, hardware, procedure}in the case study. Which components do you think were keys to success or failure of the project?

The essay should be clearly organized in three paragraphs with thoughtfully chosen topical sentences.
